The Chamber of Eternity
This is my entry for Unity's Create With Code: Game Jam event! To meet with the jam theme of 'secrets,' I went with the concept of archaeology. You must collect 50 fragments to win the game, and you'll be chased by zombies as you do so!
It is highly recommended to see the tutorial, as it will give you valuable information on the game mechanics.
I created all assets in the game except for the sound effects, music, and font. Here are the credits for the assets I didn't create:

Some changes and cuts were made to these sounds to make them work well with the timing in the game.

Really fun game, I'm always so relaxed on the safe zones then they disappear and the race is back on. Great music to go with the non stop action.
This is great! Good job!
There are some minor improvements (such as adding a number indicating how many zombies a safe zone can kill before collapsing, or adding a little arrow indicating the nearest safe zone in the last 5 seconds of the water incoming), but for a game jam game this feels wonderfully complete and fun, well done!
Very fun and intense game. However, the game doesn't make it obvious to the player when and what certain things are. I didn't realize that the top right was a timer for the water until the game told me, I also didn't know the water killed me until I died from the water. The graphics are unique and I love the concept. Great Job!
Thank you for the thoughtful comment!
Yeah, I had some trouble trying to decide how to express the mechanics to the player. I started off with a set of instructions on the title screen, but I know most people like to just jump right in, so I erred on the side of just throwing the player straight into the fire... or, well, the water, hahah.
I was hoping that placing the two zombies that get killed at the beginning would be sufficient to illustrate how safe zones work, but that does happen pretty quickly, so I can see how that information could be easily lost.
I think if I had had more time, I would have added a really big indicator that a player is safe, like a glowing shield hovering above them head when they're in a safe zone.
I'm playing with the idea of rewriting this game altogether - since I only had 3 days to make it, I had to skimp on a lot of things. But I am proud of how the mechanics are actually legitimately fun to play for their own sake, and I think I could do it much, much better if I spent some more time on it.
If I do rewrite it, I'm definitely going to prioritize clear communication of the safe zone and water mechanics.
